## Frequently asked questions

### How is CCTV storage calculated?

Storage per day = bitrate (Mbps) × 3,600 seconds × recording hours ÷ 8, which gives megabytes. Multiply by the number of cameras and the days you want to keep. Round up to the next standard hard-disk size.

### How much does H.265 save compared with H.264?

H.265 typically uses about 40–50% less bandwidth and storage than H.264 at similar quality. Smart codecs such as H.265+ save more on scenes with little movement.

### Does motion recording save space?

Yes. Recording only on motion can cut storage by half or more for quiet areas. Continuous recording is safer for entrances and cash counters.
